Ecological beekeeping with the OPTIMAL
Here is some inspiration from our beekeeping experiences at OPTIMAL since 2012.
Species-appropriate operation with the OPTIMAL
We do not recommend using acids or chemicals in and around the hive because this will disrupt the biological microclimate in the hive. It will also harm the book scorpion and other bee symbionts.
Basically, the operation is the same as with the stacked hive. The Optimal can also be used for conventional beekeeping. For effective and species-appropriate beekeeping, we recommend the following steps:
Insert construction frame

Review
As a rule, it is sufficient to look through the first and second magazines. However, to check the feed, it is recommended to check the honey stock at regular intervals, especially in areas/times where there is little nectar.
Drones cut
We do not recommend cutting/removing the drones. They have important tasks in the hive. Among other things, they distribute and dry the air in the hive, or "heat" it to maintain the temperature and take in Varroa mites. The bees themselves control the right number of drones. We do not need to intervene here. Special measures are recommended to prevent swarming, for example due to drone brood. The beekeeper should know that a drone frame (with non-predetermined cells for destroying the drones with the aim of destroying Varroa) destroys over 5 kilos of honey. So if you do not use acid treatment and do not cut drones, you have already received the 14 kilos of honey for the hive to overwinter.
Varroa control/book scorpion to regulate the Varroa population

Powdered sugar method (see video "Powdered sugar treatment" on our page "Clip-on") According to the Finnish study, 91% of all uncapped Varroa mites are removed. This means that if the treatment is carried out after the breeding season (autumn), the same result is achieved as with the oxalic acid treatment. If a number of Varroa mites are still found at this time, the procedure is repeated a week later.

Complete brood removal according to Dr. Ralph Büchler (Büchler method)
We remove the entire brood frames and replace them with new ones. It is best to use ready-made honeycombs or extracted honey frames.

Honey extraction
The honey is extracted by changing the frames. The volume of the hive is therefore not affected.

Feeding
For effective feeding, we recommend the feeding holder specially developed for the Optimal.
We recommend letting the bees overwinter on their own honey as much as possible. We leave the bees 14 kg of their honey to overwinter...

Settle bees in their natural habitat
Simply insert it into the top magazine. Whether summer or winter.
They expand downwards on their own and retreat upwards in winter.
