Purpose of Sustainable Climate Bee Hives
Many scientific studies highlight the importance of well insolated bee hives for the health of your countries precious bees. This is confirmed by our and our customers' real practical experience with beekeeping in different countries and climate zones.
OPTIMAL climate hives from Danish reed strengthen bee health through a friendly climate against bee diseases like Varroa, foulbrood and others. They are profitable and user-friendly for beekeepers at the same time.
Why are bees highly important to any life on the planet?
Bees are the most important pollinators for natural and cultural landscapes. Pollination means transferring the pollen from plant to plant and fertilizing them. The bees and insects attach the pollen at their body and leave them back in the following plants. This free pollination service is of countless value. Imagine the pollination of billions of plants is to be done manually by humans. Read more
Pollination is irreplaceable
and when it disappears with the insects, it never ever will be restored. Many wild and food plants require pollination in order to bear fruit and reproduce. The few wild insects cannot cope with this high level of pollination, especially in agriculture. For this, beekeeping is the basic element, especially in times of insect death in so many countries.
With beekeeping, nature recovers much faster
Pollination reproduces faster colonization in higher variety by plants in destroyed cultural and natural landscapes. There is a great coincidence between beekeeping and the amount of harvest. That means: The more bees you keep properly, the more harvest (and honey) you will earn.
By the way, we also consult and teach the settlement of the right choice of plants fitting exactly for your climate, place and area. We work with many specialists for this purpose. ...read more Link Text 4
Get deeper knowledge about Bee Death and ways out - how?
In many countries bees and insects are dying out. With them plant, bird and animal diversity disappear. This has massive impacts on human crops and life.
For increasing bee death there are many reasons. One of them is beekeeping in hives with a bee unfriendly climate and using chemical bee treatments, which weakens the bees health. The consequence is instable, short term living bee families.
What happened to traditional healthy beekeeping?
In the course of industrialization, the historic well insolated beehives made of wood and reed all over the world were replaced by thin wooden hives and styrofoam boxes. According to scientific studies, these beehives are often too humid, too hot or too cold. ...Read more
This weakens the bee colonies, breeds mold and fungi, bacteria and viruses. In consequence it promotes diseases such as the dreaded Varroa mite, which increases well in humid climate. This leads to high bee family losses despite the increasing use of dangerous acids and many pesticide chemicals.
How to strenghten your bee families, culture crops and nature
The parasites and pathogens react to this treatment with resistance. So chemical treatments are used at shorter intervals, more often and in higher doses. This is contaminating our nature, our soil, our crops, our drinking water and our air. Read more Scientists and beekeepers are predicting the end of conventional beekeeping. This means a devastating loss of pollination and catastrophic consequences for nature, agriculture and human nutrition.
For a healthier world we will stop this dangerous cycle
of increasing use of chemical treatments. Realise your vision of a sustainable living world, we coach you to improve your community or city, your region and even nation!
By doing so, companies, cities and municipalities, regions, ministries for agriculture and food, entire regions and countries get on an greener ecological footprint level.
So can you do! Be the first to change on to the next ecological footprint level by sustainable beekeeping. With us it is easy to begin with.

Generally
Was ist daran besser?
The law of nest scent heat binding, the basis for health, prosperity and yield.
"All performance and prosperity of the bee depends on heat. Heat is just as important for the bee as food. The scientifically determined temperatures that the bee needs vary in each case; during broodless wintering, the average cluster temperature is 22 to 25 degrees Celsius. In contrast, the normal brood temperature requires 34 to 35 degrees Celsius. Temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius are even needed to ripen the honey.
However, the air temperatures are on average far below these limits. The brood and the bees do not have any significant body heat of their own.
The difference between the heat in the air and the heat needed by the bee must be generated by the bee all year round, winter and summer. The fuel used for this is honey, which the bee must consume in excess of its physical needs to generate heat.
Example: In a naturally constructed, protected beehive, the winter diet within six months, that is from October 1st to April 1st, is around two kilograms, while in the usual, heat-emitting frame hives it is six to eight kilograms and more.
This additional consumption of an average of five kilograms per colony within six months is purely additional consumption to maintain the absolutely necessary minimum temperatures.
In order to effectively utilize this precious, life-sustaining and life-giving warmth, nature has enabled the bee as a whole organism, consisting of the colony and the honeycomb, to retain and bind the warmth to a large extent. This bound warmth is a mass of warm air impregnated with scent and thus free of germs, which prevents harmful bacterial life and prevents the development of diseases.
So why do we keep bees with wooden hives?
The switch to the thin-walled wooden hives that are common today was a result of the shortage of materials after the wars and was not something that was good for the bees and suited to their nature. Life in a tree or in another type of heat-storing environment is appropriate for them. It is not for nothing that beekeeping has been carried out for centuries using straw and reed hives.

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bienenrecht
With the OPTIMAL you can practice conventional or species-appropriate/ecological beekeeping.
How long does the OPTIMAL last?
We have hives that are 10 years old when handled normally. However, with appropriate care (paint, oil), the hive can last much longer. The larch cladding lasts particularly long and is available for an additional charge.
Don't the bees seal the magazines?
Bees putty together to keep out moisture. The OPTIMAL is very dry and we haven't had any puttying yet. If it does happen, you can separate it with a long knife that you can simply run between the drawers.
Don't bees get crushed between the drawers?
On the contrary: The frames are equipped with a sealing material that gently sweeps the bees away when pushed shut. This "broom device" prevents them from being crushed. In our customer instructions you will find further tips on how to prevent bees from being crushed when using a stacked hive.
How can this principle work?
We developed the hive according to scientific guidelines from scientists Schiffer/Tautz University of Würzburg and Büchler/Kirchhain et al. and it works great. Our OPTIMAL beekeeping instructions show you how.
Why do we need a species-appropriate dry hive? Don't bees adapt unconditionally?
The HOBOS team from the University of Würzburg examined the health of bees in various hives. They came to the conclusion that the wetter the hive, the more the bees are infected with pathogens and mold spores. This weakens them. He was able to determine that the bees in Styrofoam hives were particularly heavily infected with mold spores. Unfortunately, according to his measurements, wooden hives are not significantly drier. The fact that he now sells them himself contradicts his results in our opinion. The bees need a lot of strength to get rid of the moisture by flapping their wings, which also weakens them and prevents them from doing their natural cleaning.
Why do bees have to groom themselves and what does that have to do with the hive?
Cleaning is important, among other things, to prevent diseases and to prevent the Varroa mite, which the bees clean off by biting off their legs. Reed straw is an ideal way to remove moisture and keeps the bees well insulated against heat and cold.
Is there an optimal way to keep animals in a species-appropriate manner?
In terms of the ability to regulate humidity and to insulate and balance against warmth and heat, the OPTIMAL's measured values are on a par with a hollow tree trunk of a living tree (not a dead one and not a log hive!): There is no healthier or more pleasant way to keep bees.
Is the prey suitable for every climate?
Yes, the OPTIMAL's reed straw and wooden casing provide optimal insulation against extreme heat and cold and optimally wick away any moisture that arises. We can increase the insulation for very warm and very cold climates.
More honey? Why do you need an isolated hive? What's better about it?
The better the side wall insulation, the further the dew point extends outwards. Water vapor forms above the nest at winter temperatures of up to 25 degrees. If it cannot escape through a plastic film placed on top, it condenses. This can cause mold to form. This reduces the quality of the honey.
With the diffusion open roof we have been developing with thatch since 2013, the humidity escapes upwards. This is facilitated by a closed floor. With an open hive floor, an air exchange occurs, but this is far from sufficient to remove all the water vapor from the hive. The disadvantage is that cold air flows into the hive, which displaces the bees' disinfecting hive air. This leads to high feed consumption, lower longevity, less immunity, high temperature fluctuations with negative effects on the development of the brood, etc.
The Varroa mite, on the other hand, loves it warm and humid. The less humidity in the hive, the fewer parasites. Local bees (landraces) adapt their brood to the season. Overwintering on their own honey is ideal, as supplementary feeding disrupts the bees' natural processes. (Genetically modified, i.e. inverted) sugar, with its lack of nutrients and enzymes, is just as harmful to bees as it is to humans and is in no way a substitute for honey.
Is the death of bees only due to incorrect husbandry?
Of course, the housing is not the only reason for the massive bee deaths. Pesticides, landscapes lacking nature, mobile phone smog and more also contribute to it. Bee colonies that are kept in a species-appropriate manner are proven to be healthier, as they do not suffer from humidity, heat, cold and less from diseases and Varroa. They can therefore be stronger against other influences.
Why keep bees in a species-appropriate manner? The bee is a farm animal.
There is a change in thinking among the population and beekeepers: the farm animal, the bee, is increasingly seen as an important link between honey and nature. In the past, people wanted to use pesticides to eliminate the Varroa. Unfortunately, this has backfired: the Varroa cannot be contained in this way. It is like in conventional medicine: you fight the causes, not the symptoms. OPTIMAL offers a habitat for the bees that strengthens them.
The Optimal is of great interest to many beekeepers. We receive daily inquiries about the quality, function and handling of the hive. We show the Optimal operation in our OPTIMAL beekeeping instructions, in seminars and clips. Our YouTube channel: Bee helpers
Why is a species-appropriate bee house so important? Don't bees live everywhere?
Bees are extremely adaptable, but not infinitely resilient. Scientific research has shown that there are optimal living conditions for them too. We developed and built the OPTIMAL based on these values.
Do you have exact figures for comparison?
For example: At an outside temperature of 9 degrees and 83% relative humidity, the HOBOS scientists measured 21 degrees and 92% relative humidity in the Styrofoam hive. In contrast, in the Lüneburg Stülper they measured 23 degrees and 39% relative humidity. In the hollow of a living tree it is even drier. Unlike a dead tree, a living tree does not draw in water, but rather dehumidifies the bee hollow with its capillaries.
Will the metal on the drawers react to the amino acids?
The pull-out rails are not attached inside the hive, but outside to the magazines and do not come into contact with the bees and their products.
What about cleaning? How should you clean the drawer magazines?
The beehive biotope does not normally need to be cleaned, as the symbionts maintain the balance themselves. In extreme cases, peroxide, steam or a weed burner can be used - see Trade fair film 2020
